The Capalbio winery is once again at VinoVip al Forte, the event organised by Civiltà del bere .And its Vermentino 2022 is among the protagonists of the debutant Vermentino Show.
A long, golden, kilometre-long beach, the historic baths, art and shopping events, and that glamorous allure that has characterised it for decades: this is the essence of Forte dei Marmi, the tourist pearl of Versilia, guarded by the province of Lucca, an undisputed worldly destination. And it is precisely here, on this coast animated by the jet set, that the second edition of VinoVip al Forte will be held, the biennial event signed by the historic magazine Civiltà del bere, scheduled for Sunday 25 and Monday 26 June at Villa Bertelli, a 19th-century building owned by the municipality since the beginning of the year two thousand, and a space dedicated to hosting exhibitions and events.
Monteverro – a jewel of a winery nestled in the Capalbio hills – heads north up the coast, following the route of the Aurelia highway, and makes another stop in Forte dei Marmi, after its debut in 2018. In these four years, the estate has completed the organic certification process and its wines have increasingly entered the elite of national and international award-winning labels. Faithful interpreters of an authentic Maremma whose passion and truthfulness they carry, and at the same time elegant oenological actors with an international profile, they are perfect for the Forte, a coastal pearl, refined and of yesteryear, where film memories and exclusive acquaintances coexist. “My goal is to create emotions in the bottle,” says Matthieu Taunay, winemaker at Monteverro. “The wines must be a sensory journey that can tell the story of the territory from which they come. Each bottle is the fruit of the passion and oenological vision of the estate. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot with the unmistakable character of the Tuscan coast: this is Monteverro 2019, with grapes sourced exclusively from the best plots, on the slope sloping gently towards the sea, aged 24 months in barrique and two years in bottle, achieving a truly unique intensity and complexity, a freshness and elegance of rare nobility. The incredible variety of its bouquet with fruity and spicy notes is enriched year after year, so much so that it is often awarded in national and international competitions. While the 2019 Tinata, a sensual wine that captivates: 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache, two international grape varieties, a mix of vigour – the former – and freshness – the latter -, which here are dressed in the spirit of the Maremma and give strong aromatic notes, but very well balanced, that make Tinata a soft and elegant red, in which it is easy to intercept the typical aromas of lavender, rosemary and thyme. It is a complex wine with great aromatic depth, an absolute rarity in Tuscan wine production. So much so, in fact, that it was awarded a prize. Lastly, a competition champion, a gem of elegance and refinement, capable of conquering with its brilliant intense gold colour and its elegant and enveloping olfactory character: this and much more is Chardonnay 2020, born out of play, grown out of conviction and today crowned as this year’s ‘best organic white wine’ at the 5StarWines & Wine Without Walls.
Great novelty of the 2023 edition, the Vermentino Show, a competition between the best Vermentinos in Italy, in which Monteverro’s 2022 vintage will also take part, a true Maremma champion, the result of an excellent harvest. It releases aromas on the nose of an almost magical intensity: passion fruit, ripe mango, citrus, influences of mint and elderflower, finish of herbs, quince, and pear, mineral and lively.
